Proverbs 4

There have now been four chapters in which the father tells the son to hear his instruction, to listen to his words of wisdom. In chapters one and four wisdom is described as being an 'ornament of grace', and a 'crown of glory'.  We've seen pictures of people in other cultures who wear headdresses. These aren't just to make one pretty. They're a symbol of authority, or heritage. Imagine how others would see us if we had such Godly wisdom that we wore it as an ornament of grace.

At the end of this chapter are some very familiar verses. There is always the tendency to take things out of context. These verses in and of themselves are wonderful, and many people have them memorized because of this. "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life". Guard your heart! What goes in it, comes out of it. Whatever you love, that's what you'll spend the most time and effort on. That is what will be sown and reaped in your life. So what's the context? Wisdom, of course. How do we keep our hearts pure? By Godly wisdom. Wisdom keeps us from following the wrong people, it keeps our hearts pure, and it keeps us on a straight path - "Ponder the path of they feet and let all they ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left;"

You are on a path - which way is it going? Is it a path filled with Godly wisdom?
Ponder it!

Fight the good fight!
